About Meherkaar:

Pakistani youth generally lacks opportunities to get involved in challenging activities that lead to a sense of contribution, accomplishment and pride. Meherkaar is a voluntary initiative for youth that is designed to provide them with opportunities to contribute to their communities while at the same time work on their own growth and development.

Young volunteers, mid-teens to mid-twenties, who feel ready to take on the challenge, volunteer to form groups of 5-8 members and design a social initiative for three months.  This could be something in their local communities, from taking on a primary-level classroom in a Government school close-by to adopting a park in their neighborhood to working with the youth in their neighborhood.  The group leaders would receive a detailed manual on how to organize and run their groups.

In addition to carrying out the social project, the group leader receive instructions on how to hold ten weekly meetings of their group, in which, other than discussing the progress on the project, they facilitate meetings on issues of relevance to their own growth.  These weekly meetings are designed to gel the group and are the most rewarding part of the whole undertaking for many youth group members.

The whole Meherkaar initiative, including its management, is voluntary and no donor funding has or will be received for it.
